Tinu Mishra

Assistant Coach

Tinu Mishra was hired as Assistant Track and Field and Cross Country Coach in 2022.  He works primarily with middle distance running athletes. He has coached middle school and high school track and field, cross country, soccer, and basketball athletes.  His coaching style is to help young athletes reach their potential by training hard and having fun doing their sport.  He spends a lot of time on working with runners on their running form and racing strategy.  He is proud to be a member of the Laney family and loves to give back to the community through his coaching. Tinu is also a certified personal trainer and certified kettlebell instructor.  He co-owns and operates a Pilates and strength facility where he works with adult competitive runners as well as youth athletes.

Tinu received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland in 1991. He also has two master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from San Jose State University (1999) and MIT (2001).  He brings his technical understanding of science and engineering to his practice as a coach.  Tinu has received his USATF Level 1, Level 2 – Sprints-hurdles-relays, Level 2 – Combined Events, Level 2 – Jumps, and Level 3 – Youth Coaching certificates.

Rick Becker, MS, ATC, CSCS, CES

Athletic Trainer

Rick Becker is a NATABOC Certified Athletic Trainer. Rick began his athletic training education at Diablo Valley College in 2004 before transferring to Cal State Fullerton where he graduated magna cum laude receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training. As a Bay Area native, Rick returned to Northern California in 2014 to begin his Junior College career at DVC before joining Laney College in fall 2017.

As a graduate student at California University, Rick earned a Master’s Degree in Exercise Science focusing his efforts on rehabilitative sciences and corrective exercise. Rick has a strong focus on manual therapy and a philosophy in treating the whole body, rather than simply addressing the pathology, in the preventative effort to reduce the occurrence of overuse injury related to sport.

Rick’s vision as an athletic trainer is to blend his education and training with clinical expertise, knowledge of current research, and patient expectations to create a pathway providing the best possible health care for the Laney College student-athlete population.
